If Backing Winners Was Easy – There’d Be No Racing

If backing winners were easy there would be no racing. That is something I have to remind myself of from time to time and it just so happens that it always on a bad day at the races of course.

Just as I have stated, if backing winners were easy then we would all be doing it and the bookmakers would be out of business and therefore there would be no bets placed and in turn no more racing. Without the whole shabang, as it were, the bookmakers, the punters, the trainers, the jockeys, the owners and of course the horses – there would be no racing.

We need all of the above components as well as somewhere to race of course for racing to exist and if just one part of this chain were broken, then the whole things falls down at the first fence.

Getting back to why I remind myself if this fact – Racing is not an easy game to win and it takes time, a long time, to learn how to improve your chances of finding those sometimes illusive winners. But sometimes it doesn’t seem to matter how much you know, those winners are not so easy to find.

Take today for example, there have been winners at 12/1, 25/1, 9/1, 40/1, 9/1, 33/1, 12/1, 33/1, 12/1, 14/1, 12/1, 25/1, 11/1

So in 13 out of 31 races the races were won by a horse of odds at least 9/1, with two 25/1 winners, two 33/1 winners and a 40/1 winner! Another way to look at it is in 42% of the races in the UK today the race was won by an outsider, well a horse priced at at least 9/1 anyhow.

No doubt you are already aware that the vast majority of people who back horses lose and lose on an ongoing basis and it is not surprising is it?

The tip today is this – If you want to back winners on a consistent basis learn as much as possible about racing and no matter how much you learn, accept the days where no matter what you do the winners don’t come to be part and parcel of the game.
